850 vs 750

While researching prior to purchasing my 750, I found that it appears that the 750 and 850 share the same Yanmar 3T80 engine, yet the 850 is listed at least 5hp higher. Does anyone know what was done to the 850s to get the higher hp? I think they have different transmissions, but I really doubt that the there is that much difference in efficiency between the 2 gear transmissions.

Villengineer,the one big difference in the two engines is that the 750 does not use sleeves in the cylinders. I also think the tranny is a little bigger in the 850 but do not think that would make a big difference. Maybe the sleeved engine is able to take a little more fuel for more horses. Hope an expert on these older units chimes in as I have an 850 and it has been flawless with a 666 JD rear snowblower and 6' rear finish mower. Simple but effective units. I am throwing in a picture of my 1050-maybe going to sell both and get a 990 or 45xx series.

Looked in my tech manual for the 3TN and 4TN engines. Only covers the 55 and 70 CUT's and several skid-loaders and small trac hoes.

The differences in those engines was generally either more displacement (larger bore) or the addition of another cylinder. As well, some of those engines operated at higher rpm's than their stablemates.

Whooee... That is a beautiful 1050 you've got there! Does it have the dual SCV loader hydraulics? How about the tranny --- is it a syncro?

Went to a birthday party last weekend and the 50yr old birthday boy just did a >$8K rebuild/restoration on his 1050.

Sweet turbo 3cyl engine that has alot of power and just sips fuel.

You'll do well on any trade.
