Hi I just picked up a used 2005 790 with 215 hours and I want to change the filters. I has what looks like a spin on fuel filter on it,but I can't find anything about changing it in the manual? Anybody else ran into this. Thank you

Change it just like any other spin on filter. Take the old one off. Put a little fuel on the new filters rubber gasket. Now fill the new filter with clean fuel. Spin it back on and tighted as you would a spin on oil filter. Your done! Don't leave out the filling the new filter with fuel or you will be back here asking how to get the injector lines bled to get it restarted

Sincerely, Dirt

Looks easy to change, just wondered why no mention of it in manuals or filter listing for tractor? Thanks for advise on changing.

Page 59 in the 3x20 series gives the procedure of changing the filter. It also recomends to turn the fuel shut off on the fuel water seperator to the off position. Funny if it's not in the 790 manual.

My manual says the 790 is "direct injection self bleeding". So, what is the purpose of self bleeding if you still have to bleed it, like when changing filters, etc???

I think if you were to try and start the tractor without filling the fuel filter first you may encounter hard starting even though the fuel system is self bleeding because of all the air in the filter. As soon as someone comes on here and states they just changed the fuel filter and now their tractor won't start. They will get advice to crack the injector line to bleed the air. I myself have never had to bleed the injector lines to get any tractors started even after running out of fuel. I did crack the lines on my JD455 when I was having a problem, but it turned out to be a bad fuse for the in tank fuel pump.
