Hey guys, last week I went out and bought myself a new 7610 with FEL and turf tires. I am brand new to owning a compact tractor. I was just wondering if there is anything I should need to know. The tractor is being delivered today!! Thanks

Welcome to TBN. My advise would be to read your operators manual cover to cover. Take time to read the safety warnings. Spend some time reading posts in the safety forum. When you start out using your machine, think of it as a VERY dangerous piece of equipment that can tip very easily. Keep you loads low and go slow.

Most of all, have fun.... and remember, as far as anybody else is concerned, THIS IS WORK.... NOT PLAY! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, first let me welcome to TBN! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Glad to have you.

Well, you came to the right place. Virtually everything that you might want to find out can be found somewhere here in TBN land. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But you might want to do a little work for it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

#1 - Fill out your profile. Simply go to the top of the page and click on My Home . Then page down until you see Main Configuration . To the right of the first line that says Personal Information.. is an Edit button. Click on that and then just fill in the blanks of the various fields. This information will help others understand where you're located, what size/kind of property you're involved with, and other useful information.

#2 - Get a container of your favorite beverage, sit down in front of your computer, and start reading the forums. You might want to start in Kubota forums, since that's what you purchased.

#3 - Use the Search feature at the top of the page to find specific information. Simply click on Search , then select the particular forum you want to search in, and then in the Words to search for window, type in the description of what you're looking for. For example, type in 7610, and everything that will be displayed will include 7610 in the subject title or somewhere in the body of the text of the replies. Make sure that you set the date range. The default is set for newer than 1 week. Just click open that window, and at the bottom you should see All Posts.

#4 - Feel free to ask questions by posting them in the forums. After all, that's what they're there for. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But try to keep the questions fairly specific. Open ended or general questions make it very difficult for people to really help you because they just don't know what you're asking. We would also appreciate it if you take the time to determine which forum is most closely related to the question and post the question in that forum. It can become confusing when a question about hooking up a 3pt attachment is found in the Projects forum.

#5 - If you ever have a problem that you're just not sure about, please feel free to contact any of the moderators. Simply click on one of their names and then send them a private message. You'll find that feature at the bottom left corner of the person's profile page. This applies for any member that you might want to send a message to.

Hope this information helps. Good luck, and we look forward to your future contributions .....

.....and to the pictures of your new 7610! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome Kubotaman7!

First off - read GregJ's post carefully - then read it again!

You will quickly learn how much work you can get accomplished - and how little time it takes ("you get more done in less time" - really!) but just take things slow at first. This is so that you can develop a "feel" for the power, capabilities - and not to forget - the "size" of your tractor. (ex where the FEL "ends" - what the ROPS fits under - and what it doesn't....like some garage door openings! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )

You will find PLENTY of stories here at TBN of people who "forgot" one little thing or another when initially operating their tractor. We ALL have done something "stupid" (part of learning) - most result in merely a "bruised ego" - but some folks needed to get some new paint for their car / house / boat. Take some time and read through some of the threads in the Safety Forum

Like operating any piece of power equipment - learn how it works....Safely. Learn how to STOP it quickly - it could save a life.

**************************

Ok - all seriousness aside - take it easy at first until you develop a solid sense of how she handles. Please feel free to ask any - and we mean ANY - questions - before attempting something you might later regret!

From a user-persepctive - I replaced on old 38" Sears riding mower - I found the power steering and HST (HydroStatic Trans.) almost *effortless* in comparison - I really think my B7610 is more "nimble" than the mower. Once you get the hang of controlling the FEL (my "power wheel-barrow" as I call it) - you will be wondering how you ever managed without a tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok - sorry for the heavy "safety lecture" - GregJ and I were just discussing the safety aspects of moving heavy stuff with the FEL in this Tree Removal thread - and he touched on a key point of FEL safety: keep the load as low / close to the ground as possible.

Welcome to TBN & enjoy your B7610!

Cheers,

Dan

welcome aboard!!!! 1st of all Read the manual, then sit on the tractor and read the book again, nice to read and be able to see all the levers and such, then just tool around and get used to the feel of it.

Hey guys thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it. I spent about an hour on the tractor today getting used to it and moving some snow around. All I can say is its one awesome tractor. One question that I have is do you guys just leave your tractors in low or high gear or do you always put it in neutral before getting off? Thanks

Ok... Confession time here /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. I am in the horrible habit of getting off my tractor with it in gear. This has got to stop. Probably the most dangerous part of this would be when you are climbing back on the tractor and accidently step on the hydro pedal and go for a ride. This hasn't happened to me yet, but I know that if I don't break this habit soon, it will happen. My suggestion is to try to get in the habit of putting it in neutral right from the start. New habits are easy to make and old habits are hard to break......
