I must not have enough pride, everything I make, I always get something wrong and have to tare it back apart, that's why I need a welder big enough to run a gouger with a 3/16 carbon. I find it easier to aim low, because if I ever do make something once and not get it backwards, or off location, I'll call it a miracle. That's right, you don't want me to make you anything, I'd have to build it 3 time's to get it put together right.

Oldpath, don't sell yourself short. I imagine most or all of us have measured something wrong and had to redo it. I know I have a number of times.

As you said, even if you have to make a couple of stabs at it, in the end it will be done correctly. That's what counts. :thumbsup:

Yes, but a squeaking wheel doesn't always get the grease.
Sometimes, if it's prone to squeak and disrupts the peace of the workplace, the owner may decide to just replace it with a new one.

Right now the management is disrupting the workplace. The owner isn't around much. When he was, he asked how I was doing, so I told him straight up. Sure I could be replaced but I think they realized my knowledge in the industry is a big advantage to their bottom line. Even my supervisor, who doesn't have much say, said that you can't work in welding sales if you don't have knowledge of the industry. Sadly a lot of welding supplies don't realize this and figure they're saving money hiring people without the required knowledge. I was hired because my background in welding and I don't think I've disappointed them.

You were allowed to reuse wire that had been issued? We had to destroy (bend the wire sharply near center to destroy the flux) and throw in a locked 55 gallon barrel any rod not burned that shift. Wire (TIG or Stick) was issued by the rod, not the pound, and you had to account for every rod when turning your stub can back in at the end of your shift. Part of this was for rod control, and partly for foreign material control to reduce the chance of rod being left inside the pipe. Weld rod in the pipe at start up is a PITA to deal with. Gets stuck in valves and fittings and is a pain to get out during flushing.
