6410 JD power reversing

I just purchase a 6410 JD /1999 year it has a left hand power reverser lever and it will not stay engaged, it will engage but as so as the tractor moves the lever falls back into neutral position. If you hold the lever in the forward or reverse position the tractor work great. Does anyone know what is gong on with this.

Does it look like this schematic? Maybe the springs don't hold the lever in the notch.. just a guess, after looking at jdparts.

Maybe this? shows the "lever" with control box.. might need replacement..

New switch needed.

A new level is around 900.00 dollars so I was trying to make sure there was not anything else that would cause the issue. I had read that were a alot of lever change out and was not the issue. Do you know if there is any type of safety switch that could cause it to drop out of gear or a relay , solenoid valve

G'day must be the season for this I have a 6310 at work at the moment with the same problem have been told it could be a trans pressure switch or a park switch will get a chance to look Monday will let you know what we find

Usually when the lever won't stay in, but still drives when you hold it in gear, the reverser control lever is bad. The new lever is a different design like newer tractors and does not have the magnetic detent that makes the lever jump to neutral by itself.
