DEF & Fuel.jpg

My first tractor with DPF and/or DEF purchased in 2013 and this week first problem. Received items in pic in the mail. Don't look like much of a problem but instructions:
1 - park on firm surface, set brake
2 - lower all attachments
3 - set controls to neutral
4 - release hydraulic system residual pressure
5 - stop engine; remove key
6 - wait for everything to cool
7 - clean work area around machine
8 - disconnect ground cable
9 - hang DO NOT OPERATE tag on operator station
10 - don work clothes and protective equipment
11 - read instructions
12 - follow local safety regulations/law
13 - if working with others, communicate
14 - chock front and rear wheels

Remove fuel cap, place green emblem over fill port, install fuel cap
Remove DEF cap, place blue emblem over fill port install DEF cap

If necessary, you can contact your selling authorized Kubota Dealer for Assistance.

After the emblems are installed, it does not say anything about reinstalling battery cable, key, etc.

Are you serious?
Good gawd man!

I’d hate to see the instructions for filling it with fuel.
Haz mat suits and respirators I presume?
Stream barriers and dikes set up in a 300’ radius, fire dept on standby?

"After the emblems are installed, it does not say anything about reinstalling battery cable, key, etc."

That's where calling the dealer comes into play.....

That's interesting because a couple weeks ago I had to get a part for my Ford. They also sell Kubota. I asked the guys at the parts desk if they've had much trouble with the new emissions systems. They said the problems that did come in were for the most part owner related, like adding washer fluid or diesel fuel to the DEF tank. Looks like Kubota's trying to eliminate owner carelessness.

You've got a lot of instructions for job preparation and safety. You may have even followed them. Is there a job involved or some included equipment to install? I thought all changes to the DPF system were the responsibility of the dealer not the end user to ensure they were done correctly.

Yes, the 2 labels in the picture. And yes, it states that if you so desire, the dealer will install them for you.

I’m sure there is a way to foolproof DEF fill but they have already done a lot. The DEF fluid container comes with a tip that fits the filler precisely. If you try to fill out of a bottle such as the one for windshield washer fluid, the fluid will spill out on the ground as the tube into which you insert the filler is recessed in the opening. Trying to pour from a one gallon bottle without the spout will result in most of the fluid going on the ground. The cap on the DEF tank is bright blue. It should not be rocket science; however, many of my colleagues traveling to Europe will fill their diesel rental car with gasoline due to American habit.

As soon as they make it foolproof they make a better fool !
Years ago worked at a nursery with a good sized fleet.
I painted the fuel caps and fuel pump nozzles to match. They still managed to put gas in the diesels so I built a skid tank and fueled the tractors myself.

"many of my colleagues traveling to Europe will fill their diesel rental car with gasoline"

My son did exactly that, on his honeymoon in France!

Even though, every rental place will put a big sticker near the fill port with the type of fuel that the car uses.
