6 leaf slipper spring suspension ??

I am going to buy a PJ trailer (20ft)this weekend per my previous post.Could someone please enlighten me on what a 6 leaf slipper spring suspension is?How does it compare to a torsion suspension?Thanks for any information.coobie

The slipper spring suspension is the usual spring suspension installed on larger trailers. The leading edge of the spring leaf is attached to the spring hanger with a bolt. The trailing edge is an extended leaf that is not attached with a bolt. As the spring flexes the trailing edge slides along the spring hanger. This system works very well. I have it on my cattle trailer ('81 model) and my dual tandem flatbed ('99 model with 12,000# axles).

I've heard good and bad about the torsion axle. It's really an independent suspension. Each wheel and axle stub moves independently. The axle stub is mounted inside the axle tube with rubber. With time the rubber can wear out.

Thanks for the info JESSE1,I just sold my 16ft hurst trailer,it has the torsion axle(3500 lbs axles).The new PJ trailer (20ft.)has 7000 lbs axles with the slipper suspension.I have never heard of a slipper susp.before,thanks.coobie
