Hello-I have a 580 Case. It has been sitting for about 6 months. Never had a starting problem. So far I have jumped from my Bobcat to the starter motor but it just spins. I pulled the hoe about a foot while it was in gear but it still just spins and does not engage the flywheel. It's a 580K-Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to the quickest and easiest fix even if it is only temporary? I need it ASAP. Thank you for your time.

I would charge the battery fully and try again. I would also try to measure the cranking voltage while the starter is turning. Too low and the bendix may not pull in properly to engage the flywheel. If the starter spins but does not engage the flywheel I would pull it off and take it to a starter alternator shop to be checked out and fixed. That would be the fastest way to fix it imo.

I have a set of jumper cables made with 3/0 welding cable, these do a good job jumping heavy equipment. Most light weight jumper cables have a hard time handling the current needed for starting a diesel engine.
