I was wondering if there are glow plugs on my '05 555 DTC? if there are, how do you operate them?
someone told me to put it in low gear on hi/lo shifter n turn the key, am i even close?

It has a manifold heater. From the key off position, turn it a little to the right, not enough to energize the starter. Hold it there for about 15 sec, then turn more to the right to energize the starter. There is no detent. You just have to do it by feel.

According to my operator's manual it is an option so you may or may not have what they call "Thermostart" (manifold heater) and KSB (cold start device) that advances timing until warm. My 555 has neither and can be a bit of a bear to start in the winter. I have a lower radiator heater and blast my salamander on it to warm it up.

Manual states 5 position key switch and position 4 is thermostart and position 5 is start. On non equipped units position 4 is start and 5 does nothing.

Look and see if you have a wire going to the intake manifold if you do it will be connected the heat element and you have the option. If you do use firstfruitfarm's procedure to start.

has anyone installed a block heater in theirs?
and is there a certain one that is the easiest to install or best?

I did a lower hose heater in mine, could not find a freeze plug heater that fit application wise. Iam sure there is one out there. I just did not want to take the plug out and measure and search ect. The lower hose one works pretty good

I had the LS dealer install a new block heater in the freeze plug on the left side of the block, it's a Shibaura motor just like my NH, the tech told me that it was 1 1/2" and he got it from NAPA, looks like a Kats brand, benn working in our latest deep freeze weather in Colorado!!
