5435 Transmission Problem

The tractor has about 1000 hours on it and it has the following problems:

The speedshift light moves from C to D but the stays in D - only the light changes no change in speed

The tractor is reluctant to shift unless it is in D

The reverse is now starting to make a noise

The filter under the footrest on the left side (the 60 micron) has had to be replaced 2 times (the light came on and went off after I changed it). I looked closely at the fluid and could not see any debris however the fluid I blew out was a little dark in color.


Any ideas?????

Well she ground to a halt today... great just in time for winter. 1000 hours and dead. Shoulda bought the JD.

Did the problem get fixed last time or has it been doing it right along?

When you say it's dead, won't move? does it run?

Mines got 4300 hours without troubles, so it isn't the tractor per say. I'm guessing a clutch burned up or a seal broke. Where you using the speedshift to downshift holding a load? That kills them in no time, sticker right on the door telling you not to.

If its shifting hard in C, likely a seal is leaking the transmission circuits fluid so the main clutch can't operate. The transmission gets a fraction of the pump flow to operate everything including the fwd /rev clutches, speedshift, range change etc.
