54'' snowplow

I suspect that the reason deere doesn't make a wider blade is the control problem. the 2210/2305 are fairly light to handle much blade when angling. I started out with a 72" rear blade on my 2210. In deep snow it was useless. the entire tractor would just slide sideways. It worked fine for "bulldozing" huge amounts of snow with the blade straight backing up but hard on the neck, but angling it was a waste of time. I use my front loader mostly now and am considering a wider snow bucket.

I just posted a link to a Kubota BX plowing snow in the Kubota section that shows that effect clearly with the 60" front blade.

I think a lot of a snowplow's efficacy on a given sized tractor has to do with the weight of the blade, more than it's width. The 54" blade on the JD sub-compacts and compacts is, in my thought, about 6" too narrow, but it is quite heavy and also meant for light duty grading also. My Gator XUV can easily push a six foot plow even in deep snow, but it is a snow-specific plow and really not meant (no matter what they say) for anything else. The plow weighes a bit over 100 pounds, where a JD 54" plow (I have had one) weighes more and still has the unaccounted for weight of the mounting bracket. A Yamaha Rhino has a 66" polyurethane snow plow that it will handle without problem, yet if one hooked a JD 54" plow to the front of it, one probably could not steer it straight. JD might think at some point of offering a snow-specific lighter duty plow which is wider and more specifically geared for snow for those in the higher snow areas where such a specific implement might be quite popular.

This tractor handles the 60 inch front blade just fine.
The tractor is smaller than a JD 2210 2305 and Kubota 2230 or 2350.

I've pushed dirt snow slag/gravel with it.

The john deere 54'' plow with quick hitch mounting frame weighs 92 pounds. I had it weighed before starting the project of making it bigger. I used 1/4'' plate rolled to the blades contour 24'' high by 72'' wide that weighs 135 pounds also added 72'' scraper bar and a third spring to the frame.Total weight 236 pounds still much lighter than my 47'' blower. I've pushed 2 feet of snow the other day without any problem, but I do have a 650 ballast box on the back.I didn't make this for my primary snow removal you can't beat the blower, just wanted it for heavy wet snow and the 54'' just wasn't big enough.
