Has anyone used a 5303? I am looking for a tractor to brushhog 70 acres and this seems like a better option than a 20 year old used tractor.

It looks like its in the 17000 price range new which is twice as much as an old used tractor. Being green and 64 hp, I am thinking in ten years it will hold its value better than anything.

I purchased a new 5203 (56 HP) with a 512 FEL two weeks ago. I was also looking into 20 year old tractors from the Big 3. Purchasing a 20 year old machine would initially save me a few thousand, but I would be taking a risk of spending much time and money maintaining it.

I also looked into reconditioned/remanufactured Grey Market tractors (many also 20 years old) that were in the same price range as a 20 year old Big 3 tractor. There is the parts and support network concern for those tractors.

I decided to bite the bullet and purchase new to avoid any problems with a used or reconditioned/remanucfactured unit. That piece of mind only cost me another $8000!

Deere also had some decent finance rates at the time.

I spent last weekend mowing 20 acres with the 5203 and a 6 ft rotary mower. The 5203 is a great tractor and you won't be disappointed with its big sister the 5303.

I originally started shopping for a 30-35 HP tractor and ended up with a 56 HP tractor. I have no regrets (until the payment book comes in the mail!) and this tractor will meet my needs for many years.

Go for it!

tminer,

What size brushhog would you stay under on a 5303 after cutting with that size tractor?

How long did it take you to cut the 20 with a 6 footer and how high was it?

I have one and it's a great utility tractor for the money. I put most of the options on it and paid $15,300. I run a 10' JD MX mower with it effortlessly. I can mow anything with it. You won't be disappointed in the motor. It's the same motor and transmission on the more expense 20 series. Nice unit for the money. I don't think you'll find a more solid tractor for the money.

I spent at least 8 hours with the 6 foot mower, so I think I will keep my eyes open for a 10 foot mower!

The grass was 24 to 36 inches high, and the 5203 went through it effortlessly.
