5303 wire ?

I have JD 5303 and the hour meter stoped working.I am looking for a wire diagram to trouble shoot. Any help ?

Welcome to TBN. Good folk's; good advice (most of the time..).

I'd think that with the ignition switch on - it would be a simple exercise to check for hot and ground with a voltmeter.

I've never checked my larger tractors (newer models) but I recall from my day's on the farm that the hourmeter will run when the switch is on.

My lawn tractor hourmeter runs (records time) with the switch on - engine off, too.

You might take a look at the JD Parts website for an exploded diagram of the dash and instrument cluster as well. Might find a good enough discription/diagram to put you on the right track.

Thanks for the welcome !!!! There is on diagrams on the JD web sight and the parts list only shows the dash panel. I would like to know were or what feeds the dash (wire) so I can tell if the gauge is bad or if there is no signal for the gauge.

Hey 1022fan (Ruger??),

According to my manual, AKfish is right on. The tach and the hour meter are fed by the same circuit. In fact, they share the common 10 amp key switch fuse. So if your tach is working, then you probably have a fault somewhere in the cluster itself.

Key Switch --[red]--> Fuse Block (key switch fuse) --[red]--> 10 Wire Instrument Cluster Connector --[black]--> Ground

The tach and hour meter get fed through red wire in the 10 wire connector on the back of the cluster. They both get grounded by the black wire in the same connector.

Sounds like if your tach is working, you're going to have to crack the cluster open.
