5210 won't start

I noticed that no one has replied to this problem since Oct 06. I am having the same problem except the fuse to the fuel shutoff keeps blowing. Cleaned everything, did continuity tests, verified solenoid working by listening to it click when straight wired to battery, and checked for shorts. Besides pulling the pump what else can be checked/done?

So it clicks but doesn't turnover? Or does it turnover and not start?

Turns over but doesn't start. Solenoid fuze blows when everything is connected again. Indicates to me that there is a short somewhere in the wiring harness. Haven't found the "ghost" yet!

I hate shorts...
Usually its something I just messed with and put back together pinching a wire. I don't even know where to tell you to start. I guess with a circuit tester. Maybe the solenoid is bad?

A bad solenoid is still a possibility but I do hear it clicking when straight wired. Talked to a JD mechanic and he tells me the same thing "I hate shorts!". When I get more time guess I will go short hunting. Thanks for the reply.

I have had this issue on several units . try unplugging the cold start advance sensor . its mounted in the thremostat housing and conects to the same wires as the fuel solenoid. its right there by the injection pump.the cold start advance sensers short out . It will still start fine till you can get it replaced. hope this helps . let us know.

Thanks! Unplugged the cold-start advance sensor and 5210 "works like a charm"! My Tech. manual doesn't mention anything about the cold start advance. Doesn't even show it in the pictures. Looks like it screws into the thermostat housing. Will order a new one today.

I've got the same problem as previously mentioned.......I think. However, I replaced the fuel filter, and have the cold advance taken out of the circuit. Before doing those, I would checking to see if fuel was at the injectors so air is in the lines. When I closed all of the lines, I was trying to prime the system again, but I can't seem to introduce fuel into the lines. If I disconnect the main line going to the fuel pump, I can pump fuel via the hand pump on the fuel filter, but I cannot however get fuel to come from the lines to the injectors by this method.

Any help on bleeding the system properly would help. Then I can identify if I have a solenoid or pump problem.
