50 hr Service

The 50 hr service on my NS 4710 was due, so I got started. The inside cover of the manual differs from the maintenance section regarding what is required, so I went with the one that requires the most items, just in case.

Why on earth does Kioti screw the filters on so tight at the factory? Both the oil and transmission filter were darn near impossible to remove.

Why do they tell you just to change the transmission filter and not the hydraulic fluid? What they don't tell you is many gallons of hydraulic fluid will pour out anyway when you remove the filter.

Now that I know what to expect, perhaps the next service will be less frustrating.

My old DK had much better access and was much easier to service.

In detail, what does the dealer do when the 50 hour service is performed on a 5145? Where can I find instructions on doing it myself? I am concerned about warranty. I seems that there is always a hidden loop hole that will void the warranty.

Given that many owners do their own service, I think Kioti should proofread manuals and service information much more thoroughly.

First time filter changes are inherently more difficult. It's partially to do with them being painted after filters are installed. The next service will be much easier.

As far as changing the filter and not the fluid, here at our shop we just change the fluid because it's easier and more cost efficient to do it that way. But at the DIY level, many folks attach a shop vac at the fill port to create a vacuum when changing the filter. This allows only a minimal loss of oil and you should just need to top it off.

The shop vac trick is more than interesting..... it WORKS FANTASTIC!
You'll maybe loose a couple ounces over a couple minutes. There are a few YouTube videos showing how to do it.

I plan to do the shop vac method when the time comes, but it seems prudent to me to wipe down all vent ports and perhaps cover them with a coffee filter or clean rag to prevent pulling contaminants into the hydraulic system.

Not sure what vents you speak about. That’s why the vacuum trick works so well, as the only ingress would be at the filter fitting when the old filter is removed and exchanged with new…

I expect there is one or two ports on the hydraulic system that vent to outside air.

Once removed, that would be the location to insert the vacuum nozzle…. Also the breather pictured has no filter of any kind attached.

Okay, that make sense. Sorry, I assumed there were other ports elsewhere on the machine.

Watching someone's video where they lost 2-3 gallons of hydraulic fluid, while changing their filters, I decided then and there that the vacuum method was the way to go unless you were replacing the fluid too.

You will need some one to help you. My sweet wife ran the shop vacuum while I changed the filter. Didn’t lose too much oil…

For my Kioti DK6010SE i read on one YouTube video that someone just used the engine oil cap and screwed that in in place of the breather cap. That would old effectively create a vacuum too?

You wouldn't happen to have any part numbers for the HST or Hydro filter would you? My 50hour service is due on my NS 5310 and the dealer was suppose to do it for free as per our arrangement at purchase..however when they came out all they changed was the eng oil and filter and said that was all that needed to be done..I know now I need to change HST and Hydro filter at a minimum and I also want to change front axle fluid.

Sorry, I was speculating about various ports when I wrote that post. I don't know what model that one fits.
My RX6620 does NOT use that breather though.

I found the part numbers in my manual. The place i bought my filter kit from was able to look up my tractor and confirm which kit to buy
