I have just reached 50 hours on my Montana R3644 shuttle and have changed my oil to rotellla synthetic 5w-40 (now $22 a gallon at walmart). I next need to do the transmission/hydraulic fluid.
The manual says to use a hydrualic/transmission oil. I am one for minimizing cost but want good quality. I noticed walmart carrries a hydraulic/transmission oil that looks pretty economical. Any problem with non-name brand hyd/trans oil? Since it takes 30-32 quarts I will need at about 8 gallons of this stuff.

Also, how do I get all the oil out of all the hydraulics and all the tractor. The manual and even the service manual is strangely silent on this. Any body done this recently on a montana 2844, 3644, 0r 4344 shuttle?

Hydraulic oil is not like engine oil where it gets a hard work out. I'm not so sure you can get all the oil out with all the small and varied shaped lines and all. I would think if you open all the drains and bleeders specified, change the filters and replace with new, specified and measured out hydraulic oil you should be fine. Do not let any dirt get into the system when doing the oil change as this is very hazardous to your oil pump. I'm told air locks can be a problem and will require bleeding. I hope this may stir a bit more discussion as it will also help my knowledge.

Get OEM, why bother to save a few bucks on something as important as your tranny?
