5 wire boat trailer

just picked up my new to me boat...... I had only glanced at the connector and saw it was flat so I thought no problem....hooked it up me 4wire boat 5wire,,,,only had 25 miles to transport. got gas in the boat and found seat cushion had blown out and back tracked to storage lot to find it...never did find it

I suddenly found couldnt back up the trailer because the 5th wire wasnt connected. I finally figured it out that I needed 12vdc applied to the 5th wire to back up.
is there away to disable this on the trailer side without converting to a 5 wire? Of course its memorial day weekend and we are at the lakehouse so access to a parts house to buy a converter is not likely to happen

If i run a hot wire from the battery to this wire for the weekend will brakes work forwards?

That must tie into the reverse lights, is my guess. So when you reverse the brakes do not activate, but will work at all other times in forward motion. I would not run an always-on hot to it. Really should go to reverse light hot.

s219 is right. Run a feed wire from backup light on tow vehicle to that 5th wire.

Flip the plug upside down and replug it when backing down should work. my trailer does. they make different adapters for four to five plugs

If you have an rv plug on your truck, you could most likely use one of these. Amazon.com: Attwood Trailer Adapter (7-to-5 way connector): Sports & Outdoors I say most likely because some to the rv plugs seem to use a different pin out. Or you could just remove the 5 wire plug and use an rv plug. This is assuming the truck has the right plug and pin out.
