Here is a link to what southern WV looks like in the winter. In this first link it is of a Surface Mines, which are the main source of jobs in this region. Look in the distance, and you will notice why it is called the Mountain State.

You will have to add http://

I haven't found a 4wd tractor that I like yet.. I don't forsee myself bying a 4wd tractor too much as of now.. I would spend the same amount I would pay for a 4wd tractor on a larger 2wd. It is just the type of work I plan on using it on. I would say my mind is made up pretty much so.

I havnt seen a 4wd tractor that I didnt like.

How could you not like 4wd? The only problems I have seen with them are the ignorant operators taking them into the wrong place at the wrong time - Welcome to Stuckey'sville.

LOL, tractorboy5500, no, not you. I clumsily worded my sentence. My comment should have been directed to anyone in general who does not like 4WD. I know there are some concerns about front axle repairs, due to breakage caused by misuse.

A very legitimate objection would be those doing ground engaging work, during the proper time to work the soil - not too wet, nor too dry. Especially when tilling clay. In such cases, there may not be justification for the extra purchase price of the 4WD.

I agree tractorboy5500 . Just yesterday I was pulling my finish mower slowly over very rough ground I had spread with a dozer last summer. The slope is steep and the sod was dry, in one place i spun out.Shifted in the front wheel assist and pulled out. Nice not to have to call my boy to pull me out!

2WD tractors for the work I intend on doing are more appealing to me. I plan on mainly pulling a plow, cultivating, and tillage work. Pulling the occasional heay log, etc. When it comes to a FEL type tractor, I like some 4wd models. Some 4wd tractors just don't look right to me, visually. As for 4wd having mechanical problems, I don't think people tend to have anymore problems with 4wd over 2wd. A 4wd tractor as I understand only increased the amount of mechanical components that could go bad, or something if something every should. I don't hear much about anyone having any problems out of 4wd, over 2wd. I have heard that some of the Jinma China brand tractors have had some problems with various things, like hoses, and bearings, and stuff. Other than that I hear they are pretty reliable. Some new tractors that are 4wd might have things that after a while after first coming out on the market might have a recall on a particular part, or parts. This happens with about any new vehicle of all kinds. I don't know how some manufacturers of vehicles end up missing something when they test there vehicles, whether it be tractors, or autos, or atv's, etc.. One, would think they put them things through all kinds of abuse, and testing.

Shannon for your use a 2 wheel drive will be fine. I hope you enjoy it, whatever you decide on. But dont pass on a model just because it has front wheel assist. The worst thing i dont like is they dont turn quite as sharp. As dependable as most 2wd I imagine. I was on 2 different case backhoes today, both having over 5000 hours. Both are 4wd and neither one has had one problem with front ends tearing up.Not even a leak. So i would not worry about problems if you are buying new or late model. The farmers around here love their 4wd tractors and combines and they are very common anymore.

Yeah, I just am not sure that my intended use would call for a 4wd tractor. I am not bothered too much by the larger turning radius, but it is a larger turning radius, and may require backing up, instead of being able to complete a turn quickly. This can get bothersome after a while, of having to do it repeadly. It seems to me, that if I was going to pay o'l say $22,000.00 for a tractor, and the options I had would be like, a Compact 4wd with FEL, Utility tractor 4wd, and Larger Utility tractor 2wd, all for the same price, I might go with the largest 2wd, simply because that is the type of work I would be intending on using it for.

Clearly this gentleman has made up his mind. He is buying 2wd because it is superior to 4wd any day. That's why it was invented last. I don't get the feeling that the OP is really listening to much of anything, but rather listening to himself speak. This can be seen as he makes post after post with no one else taking part... The guy has made up his mind....

A man can be satisfied with the fruit of his lips, when he gives a right answer. Clearly the old timers got by quite well with only a 2wd tractor. Sometimes you get a new benefit, and lose an old experience. Belgian Draft horses are magnificant animals, they can really get the job done.

I am getting a horse, but it will be on of those Clydesdale types. I like the Clydesdales because they come with beer and a spotted dog.

Maybe this is why you dont need a 4wd tractor,:laughing: Just being funny.

A lot of truth is said in jest...:D

I am anxious for the new tractor to show up. The next chapter in this saga should be just as enlightening. I am thinking the next chapter will begin in about five years.

By then, I should be halfway though the payments on backhoe #7.
A Yanmar Vio 35.
