so the property owners association tractor is a 4720. the oil has probably not been changed in years. I went and got a filter and oil but I don稚 seem to have the right size wrench or socket to remove the bolt. 24mm?

An adjustable open end wrench ("crescent") use carefully should do it.. just be on size and square with the hex head.

thanks. My neighbor used an adjustable wrench to loosen it. When I tried it the wrench kept on slipping off.

The "slipping off" part of that I do not understand.. especially if it was already loose.

I use a 1-1/16" on my 4720.

If it's rounded off you can find a replacement at Advance Auto. I don't remember the thread size. Just take the old one with you.

I had to remove mine with vise grips. AA had one that fits.

I tried to use an adjustable wrench on it before my neighbor did. he is more persistent then me.
JD5210 I tried 22mm but it was too small. The neighbor who loosened it with the adjustable wrench measured it to be 27mm which is about the same as what dsb5610 said, 1 1/16”.
I will try to get a replacement but at autozone since I get bad vibes at advance. Thanks TractorGuy.

As posted above, the plug is JD part # RE46687, which is M22 x 1.5 and there is an O-ring that goes on for a seal. The O-ring is part # 51M7045

Sounds like it was tightened too tight and now buggered up..... When replacing, snug is good, any tighter not so good. Good that you are getting the oil and filter changed. Hope it ends well...

It appears to be a 22MM. How I found this went to John Deere parts
John Deere Parts Catalog

The drain plug part number is RE46687 and did a google search and found this

Here is the owners manual if you need it

22mm is the thread size, M22, not the size for the hex head/wrench size. That is 27mm

I use a 1-1/16" on my 4720. dsb
That should work, 1.063" is the same as 27mm

Since the drain plug uses an o-ring, I would get it from JD; $8.40
