4500 fuel problem

My dad was using his brush hog for about 2 hrs. Stopped for about 15 min. Tried to start mowing again, CLICK.
He has had this problem before. He let it sit over night and started right up the next day.
Any suggestions?

Check and clean all 4 battery cable connections. Check battery voltage with a volt/ohm meter if a battery tester is unavailable

Yep, I'd put my money on battery and/or connections. Do as Jim says above and go from there.

Is that the fuel solenoid pulling in or the starter engaging? Does the 4500 have the same thermistor as its little brothers, 4400, 4300?

A failed or failing thermistor will allow the starter to engage and spin the engine but will not allow fuel to the injection pump. It can be temprature related too.

If the battery or cables don't get you going keep this in mind.

Try twisting the PTO knob slightly. I know it is a pull out, but sometimes mine will not crank unless I fiddle with the PTO knob.

That's funny about the pto knob. From what i hear the fuel solenoid is not pulling in.

I could not tell from your original post if it was cranking and not starting, or, not cranking at all.
