Greetings All,

Been a member for a while, first post. I own a 446, bought it new in 1978. I am having trouble with the lower steering gear, wearing out and steering is slipping. Looking for a replcement part, anyone know of a dealer who may have one?

I did see some references to Salem Power Equipment here in MI, I will contact them in the morning. Just hoping I can find a part, hate to mothball the tractor due to something like this, I still have to clean up the yard!!

You can have a machine shop rebuild that one. I had one on a 646 that was giving me trouble. You can bore out the rack gear and install a new bushing then grind out the worn out pin that sticks up from the bottom and put in a new one. Be carfull to allow enough slop when welding in the new pin. I made mine too tight on the first try. Then keep it greased.
