I was checking out filter locations getting ready for my 50 hour service when I noticed that my 4310 does not have a Rockshaft Control Valve Filter. Just a straight pipe where the manual shows the filter should be just below the toplink and above the pto shield. I'm wondering if JD stopped putting these on the 4310 or if they dont put it on tractors with sync shift transmissions??? Anybody else have a 4310 missing this filter?

My 4310 eHydro has the same straight pipe. Curious. It wouldn't be the first time the Deere documentation was out of date.

Rockshaft Control Valve Filter and plumbing were not on the
first of the 4X10 series tractors

I am not sure but it may be that ehydro models get the rockshaft filter. I will ask when I talk to the John Deere tech assist guy tomorrow and find out.

I believe your statement is the reverse. I had any early model 4210 which had the filter, I now have a new updated version 4410 and it does not have the filter. I was told by my dealer that John Deere should send me the new manual for the updated model. I still haven't seen the updated manual yet, and was thinking maybe I should give them a call.

Thanks everybody for the info. It really helps having a pool of experienced 40XX owners to share your knowledge. My dealer has been very willing to answer any questions I've had but I am reluctant to constantly call him with minor inquiries. Seems that Deere decided to delete this filter. I'll assume that it was not necessary. More incentive to keep those fluids and filters changed on schedule. I will be sure to call and see about getting an updated manual. I had no idea that one was available.

I saw this filter appear late on the original 4000 series, presumably to solve a contamination problem with the rockshaft valve since that is the last component in that hydraulic circuit. When the Ten Series appeared, it had an additional suction filter that the 4000 did not. I suspect that Deere found the rockshaft filter was redundant and removed it. I guess that explains the great discounts this selling season. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was incorrect, 4310's with serial numbers up to the following had the filter
(SN -H133129, -S138323, -P136192)
