Hi all,

We have a 4210 compact tractor in the shop. Unsure of year. Serial number LV4210H320728.

I have a copy of TM1985 that tells me to check flywheel speed sensor as part of diagnostics. Tractor does not appear to have one. Wiring at connector X25 (hst controller) has different wiring than manual shows.

Can anybody tell me what version of TM1985 I need to get for this tractor?

I see a 2012 version online at therepairmanual but I'm not sure if this is new enough.

per the John Deere Parts site, your tractor is a 2004, so any manual dated that or later should have the correct info in it

2002 Model (Serial No. LV4210H120001-220000)
2003 Model (Serial No. LV4210H220001-320000)
2004 Model (Serial No. LV4210H320001-999999)

JD parts says the flywheel sensor was no longer used after serial number 320004.
Does your TM1985 have date? I suspect you have an early edition.

The later tractors used a signal from the alternator to operate the tachometer. Dark green wire #325 goes from alternator to tach.
