4200 John Deere

Am going to look at a 4200 with 626 hours, 4 wheel drive. Hydrostatic, 72 inch mid mount mower, 5 ft brush hog and back blade, lift bar and platform. He's asking 10 k, which seems like a decent price. The only thing it lacks is a loader. Are there anythings in particular that need to be checked with this model? I have been looking for something to mow 7-8 acres of pasture. The tractor appears to be very clean, and well cared for. Any opinions?

The early models chewed up turf on tight turns. I think it was the 1998 year only and there was a dealer fix for it. I owned a 2000 4200 and it was a great little tractor. The brake linkage likes to get sticky. Check that when you look it over. I ran a 5 foot hog with mine and it did just fine.

I don't know about the price but the only knock I had on the 4200 is that was slightly underpowered. But it should run those implements just fine. Good luck.
