Two 4110 4x4 Mahindra
Having issues with the old tranmission,i was backing up and the thing popped out of gear, with a loud noise.tried to put it back in gear and it froze up like it was going into two gears at the same time.
I took off the plate on the side and lined up the gears, when going forward it made all kind of noise clicking and jerking.I thought it was a couple teeth broke off in the tranmission.
I pulled the motor apart from the tranmission,it looks like the clutch is gone, very thin.I turned the tranmission shaft and it feels fine no noise that i can hear.has anyone else had this kind of trouble before?
Going to replace clutch, through out bearing, anything else you can think off.pilot bearing look and feels fine.this OLD 66 year Country Boy can use all the help i can get,See Ya

You may have a worn clutch but it soundslike a transmission problem in addition. Is there a cover you can take off to look inside the tranny while the tractor is split? A shift fork may be broken or bent and if two gears engaged at the same time somethings gotta give.

How many hours? Youve got a worn clutch but it sounds as if theres a transmission problem as well. Is there a cover you can take off to look inside the tranny while the tractor is split? You may have a bent or broken shift fork. If two gears were engaged at the same time somethings gotta give.

Thanks Larry for trying to help me,I took it all apart and your right the clutch is gone.Going to replace everything inside,Oh i turned the main shaft several times on the tranny and it turns very smooth.I donot here any noise and there is no resistance when turning the shaft.(maybe the clutch was the problem not letting it go into gear all the way}
This old dog has a ton of hours on it, no guage for hours, around 2004 model there is no plate i can take off to look at the tranny. The main book shows a cover plate that covers the intire floor and the bolts are flat on top and spot welded to the deck. i can cut a hole in the floor with a tourch and weld it back,,i cannot feel any plate on top of the tranmission. There may be one,it sure would be nice to look inside the box. I pulled the shifting arm back out of the tranmission and it looks fine just wore a little at the forks but not bent.
Larry, if the tranmission turns smooth do you think its ok,i don't mind working on this old dog,but don't want to break it apart again if i do't need to,Thanks for your help.

I think if the clutch was affecting the trans you would get a grind as you put it in gear. You didnt say anything about that. The popping and jerking when moving sounds tranny internal. --- but, what does the clutch spline and mating trans input spline look like? Could that spline be slipping?

Larry, the splines look to be just fine not worn down that i can see,i did'nt say anything about it because they looked OK ? The only time i heard the popping and jerking was when it first jumped out of gear and i tried to move it.
I eased it back to the barn and took it apart and saw the clutch was gone,i guess i'll just half to take a chance on the trans and hope it's not that. Thanks for all your help, its always nice to talk to someone that dosen't charge $85.00 a hour,See Ya..

Can you get the rear half setting completely on stands? If you can, try to turn the transmission in all gears, forward and reverse gears, and make sure every thing turns smoothly through the transmission to the rear wheels. Try to keep one wheel stopped and then the other to make sure the differential is ok.

Brother, i don't know what going on with this old tractor,i'll try to get the back half off the ground somehow and do just what you said .You guys are a life saver, because i'll flying blind when it comes to the tranmission. Thanks for all you help,i sure do appricate it,Ole Country Boy from Tx, See Ya..

I remember my old H Farmall. I planted 20 acres of sweet corn and other truck crops for roadside stand. That old tractor stood up pretty good against a 14 -18 year old kid. Speed shifting was my special fun. It's no wonder I would jam tranny into 2 gears.

However, the Mahindra doesn't seem like it would speed shift that easy. These days I don't get a kick out of doing things that cost me $$. So I don't even try it. How do you tear up a tranny with regular farm work? I guess a loader might be hard on one? Maybe a clutch that wasn't strong to begin with? I would think a few thousand hours might wear clutch out.

Just wondering...............Coffeemano l

P S I now have a Super C that I fixed up nice. It stays inside and it's only use is to look pretty and take me for a ride once or twice a month.

Hi coffeeman,i guess we come from the same old school, tractors are pretty hard to miss up.This old Mahindra sure has been thru the mill,it cought on fire in 2004 and before i could put it out it burned up all the way to the seat.
Next big thing i broke it in half right at the radiator, weekest part of the frame.Welded it up and put some gussets on it so it will never break there again.I had to take the tranny to the dealer, when i took it apart, parts and gears fell out all over the place. But,it did have 4 gears striped, probaly half to sell some cows to pay for it.
I sure am glad i'm not scared to work on these things,i had to take this thing almost all to pieces, nothing left on it but two back tires, rear end and a gas tank.I'll let you know what happens after all the parts come back in. So far all i got back is clutch pressure plate throw out bearing,$270.00,See Ya
