We gave a JD4100 M4WD tractor. On occasion, it will not restart. Turn the key and nothing. I managed to get copies of the schemantics from the local JD dealer and ran down the problem. It turns out that there is a side-insert connector that is inserted from the back towards the front that was unplugged. Seems anytime a stick or brush gets up there it pushes the connector out. This is not a big issue for me, but my better half simply can not figure out how to reach up and push things back together.

Have any others had this issue? What have you done to correct it? I about ready to tear it down far enough to snip off the plug and solder the wires together.

Side-effect is that I will lose a safety switch that prevents the tactor from being started in gear or with the PTO engaged (not sure which switch this one is).

I'd appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.

Thanks,
-Bob

Welcome to TBN Bob:D

I have been around a while...and have a 4110 which is the newer updated model of your 4100 and have never heard or experienced the problem you are having. In fact-from your description I am not even sure exactly where this connector is?

My first thought is to wire-tie (zip-tie, cable-tie) the connector or wire to something to prevent it from coming off? Or possibly bend the tabs closed more so it fit tighter?

Any chance of a picture?

Kenny has the easiest way to fix that. Use zip ties to encircle the connector and it will not come apart. I did that on the wiper motor on the S10 7 yrs ago after I broke the connector while replacing the motor.

KennyD-
Connector is on left side behind wheel. I can just reach around/under to reach it. The only way to get a pix would to be to remove the rear wheel. I will do do next weekend. Will take a picture and either find a way to permantly tie wond teh connector or cut it off and short the wires. One way or the other, I have to fix this so my other half can rely on the tractor.

MFreund-
I didn't feel much in there to grab hold of with a tie wrap. Good idea if I can find something to tie it down against. Will let you know after my fun and games next weekend.

You are going long ways around the connector. The zip tie goes between the wires across the connector. Use the smallest ties you have and use more then one if you need the length.
