Here is the tires. Sorry I didn't get the model with the snow/mud insignia.

Also comes with this 3-point quick hitch. The dealer said "they won't attach to many implements". I appreciate his honesty. Bucket looks unused!

I can't use a 3 point quick hitch, because my attachments are all different sizes and many of them won't fit a quick hitch.

One thing I don't like about John Deere loaders is that they don't have the more universal skid steer type attachment. In other words, you can only attach John Deere products to a John Deere loader, unless you get a special adapter.

This machine will be used for mowing, log bucking and as a earthing moving machine. Plus lots of slash moving as well.

Ag's will certainly do right by you, particularly in the woods; that said, hybrid tires have impressed a lot of folks on here, myself included.

I assume the mowing isn't going to be finish mowing, just more like field maintenance?

They do built a attachment plate for them but we are not getting it..

How much is the backhoe attachment?

I would be very hesitant on buying a backhoe attachment for the back of a cab tractor. If you are going to do it, make them connect it for you and do a demo of what it takes do dig with it. I think you'll realize it's not practical to use it and have to get off of the seat to climb into the cab to reposition yourself over and over again.

How often will you need the backhoe attachment? What will it be used for? Where will you store the backhoe attachment when not in use?

What does it cost to rent a mini excavator to do what you need? The difference in what you can get done with an excavator over a backhoe attachment is going to be night and day.

That is something that can always be converted over, but personally, I prefer the JDQA.

It's much harder to mistake a successful hook-up.

They got some scratches on the bucket!

I have a friend that has a newer JD and its amazing how well the paint holds up on the bucket. They are made to use!
I can only dream of having a tractor like that. She's a beauty!

I have had both three-point backhoe attachment and have a Ford 3550 backhoe. The three-point backhoe was a rough ride for the operator, and the tractor took a beating. I just learned to take smaller bites. There is so much leverage to contend with on a backhoe. They do get it done. Do some forum reading on three-point backhoe

The Ford 3550 backhoe digs better but changing positions is a pain. A mini excavator is a better tool.

A couple of points. A lot of attachments can be had with the JD quick attach setup for the FEL. It sounds like you are going to get a grapple and the bucket, you should be fine with the JD setup.

The quick hitch on the back will hook up to most newer implements. I’m not sure why the dealer said that. There is a standard spacing that is required for the quick hitch and most newer implements will work. Sometimes the top hook up won’t quite work but someone makes and extender type setup for it.

We are not getting or renting a mini excavator. We have much ditching & culvert work to do, some is over 2 miles in to do the work. We hope to get some done, each time out. Even if a mini is better at the job, how long does it take to go 1/2 in to the work site?

That's a great tractor for your wants/needs. I like the Rear Remotes, the Grapple remote, the robust brush guard. I actually like the Nokian tires, but R1s are great too. I am agnostic about a quick hitch, but I would prefer a SSQA mount for the loader (many more attachment options - new and used). I assume there is a rough cut mower in your future as well as a rear blade or box blade,

It did a build your tractor (minus remotes) and it looks like a pretty good price.

There are three schools of thought on a backhoe

  1. Buy a Backhoe attachment for your tractor
  2. Buy or rent a Mini Ex
  3. Buy A a used Industrial Tractor Loader Backhoe for about the same price as the attachment
I like option #3

I had very little trouble making minor modifications to 3pt attachments to mate to the JD iMatch quickhitch. Including the forks that fit the JD FEL loader mount.
Something to figure out, if a lot of skid steer attachments are believed to be on the wanted list. Not many that I can think of other than maybe a post hole digger run by hydraulics so reverse rotation might be good. Those attachments on a loader usually need more gpm hydraulics flow available which presents another problem.

He called them R4's so them must be a derivative of them. Bad? Good!
Those are R14s I believe. Very effective tread pattern.

Only issue I’ve really seen on the 4 series has been MFWD knuckle leaks. Very sensitive to corrosive environments but I haven’t been into enough of them to really know for sure.

If you like it, go for it. Solid tractor.

That is a fine looking tractor. Are you asking about travel speed or how long would it take to dig a half mile ditch?

The top travel speed on my mini is 4mph. It is uncomfortable at that speed unless it is smooth. Similar to a tractor.

The biggest linear digging project I have done was ~600 feet of tile in my hay field. It was hard digging, chasing the springs and pulling out a couple rocks the size of a refrigerator and moving them to use as ornaments. Most of it about 4 feet deep. If it was a paid job I would have dug it all and laid the pipe in one long day. Cleaning out ditches with a wide grading bucket would go much much faster per foot.

I've only done one "real" culvert job and was very intimidated. It barely took 2 hours! And it has held up to every gully washer since.

A good used mini excavator for personal use can be easily found for ~30k at today's prices. What does the John Deere backhoe go for? I also have a 4 foot bush hog for my mini and it is one of my primary uses for it. You could do similar aerial mowing with a lane shark or a boom mounted bush hog or flail.

I'm obviously in the mini excavator camp - LOL!
