LS XR4040
After lurking for months and doing lots of research we finally committed and the XR4040 was delivered Wednesday. Did the first real work with it yesterday (sometimes my job interferes with life).

Very pleased with initial usage of the tractor. Did a bit of moving pallets for one project, switched the forks out for the bucket (love the QuickAttach!) and moved a little dirt and then mowed for a while. All of it was a pleasure. The machine is so comfortable! I'm so glad I was able step up to the 40. With all the mowing, etc I have to do the 6' implements will save time.

My biggest "issue" is that the tractor is long enough with FEL and then pallet forks that it's a bit hard to see and the turning radius is a lot tougher to manage than a forklift. But that's the nature of an all purpose machine, which is new to me. In the past I've used Bobcats, excavators, etc. All specific use machines which do one thing well and not much else.

For non HST owners, I'm curious about the range/gear combination and RPM you typically run when mowing. This is the area that is newest to me and will over the life of the machine be by far it's greatest use so I want to get it right.

Welcome to TBN from Ea WA state. I don't have a mower by my chipper is run at 540 rpm/2140 rpm on the tractor. When the neighbor mows, its at around 5-7 mph and geared so that the pto is at full speed - 540 rpm.

For starters on your mower - I'd go with what the mower manufacturer recommends. You don't want to lug that engine.

I'm a "wet side" native of WA but life brought me to GA a couple years ago. Thought I knew all about rain until I got here. :p

Good point about lugging the cutter. 2100+ seemed more than necessary for tractor RPM but PTO is a different matter.

Oosik, what chipper do you have and would you buy it again? After mowing I may end up chipping more than anything else and I'm not seeing a lot of info or options for PTO driven chippers.
