Were there any "good" axles before the redesign or were the complainers the only axles to be changed. I'm looking at a '99 4600 mfwd with the original front axle. The owner claims no turf scraping. Was this problem common to all first series axles?

Quick ideal test... drive the unit in the middle of the "owners lawn" and "crank" the steering as if you're simulating mowing your lawn...

Now...Check the results...on his lawn.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I have the old style axle. I do not use mine for a mowing application so scuffing is not an issue for me,but I believe the old axle is a heavier built design. There has been lots of discussion and debate on these axles and there is plenty of information on this board that has already been posted about the front axle.It has probably one of the most talked about items on this discussion board.
Like John said try it out and see what you think.

John-
I have a'99 4400 with the "old" style front axle and have been very happy with it. But take John Millers advice, and try it for yourself. Good Luck !!
