While comparing lift capacties between a deere 855 and competitive models, I find the rating for the 855 is on the light side of 785lbs. at 24" while other models may be rated at over 1200lbs. at the same distance. Has any one found this to be a significant negative feature for the 55 series and the implements that it can run?

I have a 955, and as long as it will lift the implements that I own, as it will, it works for me. Both the boom flail and the 25A flail weigh in at about 630 pounds, and the box blade is less.

For most compact tractors, the "spec" 3-point hitch lift capacity exceeds the weight of the implements that would match the horsepower and tractor width. Thus it usually isn't a determining factor when comparing tractors of approximately the same horsepower and size. The only time I have stalled-out the 3-point hitch was when using a post hole digger and let it get too deep before raising.

Ok...how did you get it out of the hole once you stalled the 3 point? I've been considering a 3 pt PHD....

The first thing I did was to swear. That usually helps me. Then I rocked the auger back and forth slightly with the tractor until it loosened up enough. You need to dig the hole with a series of lower-and-raise actions going slightly deeper each time to help assure that the auger won't get screwed tightly into the ground.

But be careful!/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif A neighbor loaned his post hole digger to a friend. The friend screwed it into the ground and the 3-point couldn't lift it out. So he "rocked" it back and forth until he could pull it out; just bent the heck out of it./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Needless to say, my neighbor does not intend to ever loan that guy any of his implements again./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

The lift capacity 24 " behind is 1005 LBS for a 855.

If I remember right the older 55's had a lighter lift cap and newer ones was over 1K. there is a ss# split to know what it is. A dealer told me that you kit the older tractors to increse the lift cap to match the newer ones. a dealer could tell you the SS# split.
