3pt boom pole plans

I am thinking about building a boom pole to fit my yanmar 1510, with the ability to have 6-8 ft. horizontal reach , lifting 300-500lbs. Any advice and pics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Look craigslist over. I see em all the time in the $100 range. Would take a lot of convincing me to spend a day in the shop rigging something together vs just spending the $100.

Advise, 500# hanging 6-8' of the back of that little tractor is gonna require some front end weight. IF it will even lift it.

What kind of lift height/range of motion are you looking for? Its range of travel and lifting capacity is directly proportional to the range of motion the ball ends have.

Average 3PH has maybe 2' range. If you make a pole that has a 6' range of travel, in order to lift 500# your hitch will need to be rated to at least 1500#. Do you know what yours is rated for?

I agree with LD1. You really gotta study the lift capabilities of the tractor. I made one years ago with several hook points along it's main beam. I rarely used the one out on the end. Tractor wouldn't lift much out there.

Also look at Shield Arc's pics. He's an expert on building strong. You need the triangulated design or something similar to it to prevent the pole from bending sideways under load.

Does your tractor have a hydraulic top link?

$130 brand new at tractor supply. I couldn't make one for that price.

I don't remember the brands, but none of the commercial ones I've looked at in the last 3 years or so were quick hitch compatible.

But if you have a quick hitch, you have a source of the hitch end dimensions.

We used one for a couple of decades because my Dad was too cheap to buy a FEL so he had the shop at work make one for nothing. 2" (maybe 1/4 wall) tube maybe eight feet long with a strengthening gusset part way, and 1" X 2" flat bar bent approprietly for the lifting arms. It was actually quite usefull on a number of occassions. Most tractors have pretty impressive 3ph capacity. As young teens, we used to use it as a mobile tire swing!
