Built this log splitter over twenty years ago and the semi automatic, voice activated, hydraulic control valve actuator no longer functions as designed.

I need to add a winch or hydraulic lift to get the larger rounds on to the beam, cant lift them like I use to. I bought a HF pick up truck lift to add to the end of the beam, however, I am looking for suggestions. Should I bother to put the boom on the beam or would a hydraulic cylinder and valve be a better choice? Here are some pictures of the splitter as it stands now:

So far I have a new wedge.

Well as luck would have it I was doing some splitting before the rebuild and broke the wedge. It broke two years ago and the weld was holding until I tried to split a large knot. So the time has come to at least weld on the new wedge. The post has been out there for a while with no responses, wonder why?

Here's my setup, I've since rebuilt the boom as about a 5ft diameter wet cottonwood log did her in one day! But gives you an idea, Its on its own spool and works great
