The solenoid is a fail stop. I would first check the wiring from the ignition switch to the starter. Make sure all the connections are good, and there are no breaks in the wire. You should be able to access most of this wiring either under the hood, or by removing the covers below the steering wheel. My purple tractor is a 2000 Landtrac 360DTC.
