354LE 4WD PROBLEM

I have a new 354LE that appears to be stuck between 4WD and 2WD. I put it up on block stands to see if taking the pressure off all four wheels would help. But it only grinds when I put it in gear. The handle will move about 1 or 2 inches but will never catch and it appear to go in and out of 4WD and 2WD when I put pressure on the handle but if I release it only turns the back wheels and make a grinding sound. I have 14 hours and the tractor and the dealer said he only warrantees the engine for 6 months and anything else is my problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated

If you look in your book on page 24 it will show you whats inside the cover.Things to check would be #2 Swell pin broken,# 11 bent shift fork,or # 14 needs lubrication.Should not be hard to fix.

Thanks Tommy, You’re a lifesaver, now all I need is a manual. I received a 284 manual with the tractor instead of the 354. I went home at lunch today and bungee corded the handle down and it ran without making any noise unless I tried to lift up on the handle and then it banged and grinded. Maybe it’s nothing serious. Thanks again for all your help!
