336D Brush Hog

I have read that you should have at least 4 HP per foot of brush hog. I expect that is HP at the PTO. For example, I have a YM1700 with ~20 engine HP and 17 HP at the PTO. I can run a 5' finish mower great, but I understand that I shouldn't try to pull more than a 4' brush hog.

If that is true I am pretty well happy as I have 33 HP engine which I believe is about 27 HP at the PTO.

Mihg beable to do a 6 foot Hog. Lets see what other advice I get.

Thanks for your input.

I have used both a 5 and 6 foot rotary mower on my 336d model. They both would mow fine except in very thick, high grass where I could bog the engine at times.
I liked the 5 foot better as it was more the size of my rear wheel spacing, the 6 foot was a bit wider and presented problems if I mowed close to something and I would forget the extra width.
If you mow in tall, heavy weeds watch the radiator, it can quickly clog it up and overheat from the fuzz, seeds etc.

I have a similar tractor also and I have a 5' rough cut which I had on a 22 pto hp tractor previously and I dont even know its back there I mow in high gear up until I have a lot of turns to make then I slow down a little.

The rare times I do feel it I also see the smoke get darker and the tractor doesn't even slow down a bit. I think we could run a 6' but I know the 5' is no sweat at all and it fits the rear wheel track width perfect
