I just changed my oil for the first time. The factory installed oil filter I removed is a little bigger (longer and wider) and appears heavier duty than what the JD dealer sold me for a replacement. Also, looking into the factory filter it has components the replacement didn't. The replacement did screw on and the seal did match up on the plate however. The replacement is stamped USA made genuine JD #806419. Is this common...has anybody else experienced this or have any advice. Thank you.

Sounds like they made some improvements in size or got a cheaper supplier that makes the minimum requirements.

Yep, the factory Yanmar filter is different than the JD replacement one I put on the 3320. Shorter, maybe a bit fatter?

Both seemed to be solid filters though.

I went to WIX on my first oil change on this machine, and have a NAPA Gold (WIX) for the next... many filters will fit. I like having some thickness of metal encasing the filter itself though, ruling out most (all?) of the "el cheapos"

Sounds like JD changed the replacement filter since about one year ago. My first replacement filter for initial 50 hr service purchased from JD dealer about one year ago was identical to the factory one I removed. Hopefully, the new latest filter is as good as or better than the old.
