I noticed when I start the engine I can hear a whissing sound . I lifted the bonnet and noticed that the fan must be touching the shroud . The fins on the fan is notched about 3/4 inch deep by 1/2 inch wide right where the shroud is . The fan does not seem to be loose . I noticed that the fins look to be closer to the shroud on the bottom than on the top . I am wondering what might be causing the fan to come in contact with the shroud causing it to cut into the fan ?

Is anything loose or has excessive play?

I had the same problem only it was worse than yours by the time I discovered it. Your fan shroud bolts are probably loose and the shroud has dropped from its proper position. My dealer replaced the fan because it was quite chewed up. Evidently the final inspection fails at times.

Thanks AchingBack . I will check the bolts on the fan and also the shroud bolts . When I looked at it I couldn't see any adjustment on the shroud . Looked like it is just bolted to the rad support . Maybe someone can tell me if there is any way to adjust the shroud up or down . Mine lookes to be closer on the bottom and that makes me think the shroud is a little high and that is where the fan is making contact . I could put my finger between the fan blade and the shroud on top but not on the bottom .

Try loosening all of the bolts to see if the shroud will move down.

Also check the engine and loader mounting bolts on each side, as I have seen this cause the fan to hit.

Thanks . I haven't been able to check it out as I slipped on ice and fell . I can't wait to feel better and get back at the tractor . I have it parked in my garage over the pit I have to work on my truck . I am thinking I might be able to get down in the pit and look for something loose . I think the loader and engine bolts you mentioned there are 8 bolts on one side and 7 on the other side . Would that be the bolts that I should check ? Would you know what the torque for those bolts would be ?

Your loader manual should contain a page with torque setting specifications.
