320 battery light

The battery light on my 94 JD 320 stays on all e time when I'm mowing. I am only getting about 12 volts coming back to the battery. It seemed fine, but the battery was dead when I went to start it today. 12 volts seems low, I'm guessing it should be around 14 or so? The battery is new as of a month ago. Now that the thing is running well, this seems to be my only issue remaining

Gumby, sounds like it is time to inspect your charging system. The battery light is on when the battery is not being charged. Without a wiring diagram you can make a visual inspection of the wiring and connectors. Pay extra attention to the push on connections. They can come loose from normal operation over time. If everything looks okay it is time for a service manual. That will direct you through a step by step troubleshooting tree to locate the part that failed.
