Our fire dept has truck with this engine . What is a good source of reman crate engines for this brand? Also found 8v82 in salvage yard. Will it interchange with the 8v71?

Not saying you are wrong, but I think you mean the savage yard engine is 8v92, not 8v82. Detroit did not make an 8v82 to the best of my knowledge. No, the 8v92 will not interchange with the 8v71. the engine mounts are different. The 92 engine is longer than the 71. :2cents:
