A large log (abt 12 inches diameter) popped out over the bucket, slide down the hood and hit the steering wheel hard.

I'm very glad that log didn't break through the steering wheel and crush you.

Some of the guys might remember a thread on here a few years ago where a farmer was carrying a round bale and it came back and crushed him. He was hurt pretty badly.

I'm glad your steering wheel acted like a safety stop for you.

When I was a teen a neighbor had a log on his FEL. Log rolled back and just about killed him. Over a month in hospital, and probably at least a year before he was moving like before accident

That's the problem. Even if older tractors had ROPS, they would be behind you.

I hope, @DKCDKC we didn't mean to make you feel worse, just the opposite. I hope you feel better knowing it's just plastic and metal that got hurt.

I decided, after inspection, that fixing the damage would involve removing the entire control panel column, including fuel tank. Took it to my local repair folks and they fixed it in a couple of days. Cost me almost $1,000. It was certainly a learning experience. I still think it strange that it didn't crack my plastic hood. That log was heavy. If the steering wheel hadn't caught it, it would have sent me to the hospital for sure.
