3 point seeder

I have a 3 point fertilizer spreader, but never have tried to use it to spread clover seed on a food plot. I am thinking it would be a poor spreader for this so I am asking if anyone has ever used a standard 3 point spreader for this. Maybe a home made adapter plate could work.

I think most of the big three point cone spreaders are not a good method to spread clover.

This is due to not being able to restrict the openings enough to regulate the flow of clover seeds (really any small seeds like Bermuda or others).

I’ve heard mixing the clover with sand or other material that helps reduce amount of clover be spread to a reasonable amount per acre.

There are other methods the Herd GT77 (mine works) is one that works well for clover.

I've found what mine works best for; spreading fertilizer. However I mix the grass seed into the fertilizer before loading; otherwise the gate is to big. As soon as the ground settles I need to do it again in my bottom hay field.
I missed the window in Dec. when the ground was frozen. I was sick with the K-flu strain, flu shot was ineffective for K strain.

For really small seeds like clover it is best to use a hand seeder.
If you are doing several acres though, you can mix the seed with pelletized lime and use the 3 point spreader.
