Does anyone know how the manufacturers determine the lift capacity of the 3 point system? Do they just start lifting something and gauge at what point the safety release valve opens, or what? I can't find out.

I imagine they are all different on how they spec them.

I dont know for sure, but if I had to guess, I'd say that they DONT actually test them physically. Rather they probabally just use calculations based on the geometry of the hitch, system pressure, and lift cylinder size.

During my engineering career I worked for 3 major agricultural and construction equipment manufacturers. We verified all technical specs before they were released by actual measurement. Realize that meant 1 machine minimum, not every machine off the line although depending on which of the 3 manufacturers all specs like hydraulic pressures, travel speed, etc., were verified on each machine before shipment. They did not all read the same - every relief setting, etc., has a tolerance.

Could you explain how you did the actual tests?
