I recently purchased a 1988 20 hp Iseki tractor. The 3 point hitch is not working properly. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I heard that there might be a filter for the hydraulic fluid but I don't know where it is located. Does anybody know what might cure this problem? And if this tractor has a hydraulic fluid filter where it is? When the lift does work I can hear the hydraulic pump making a loud type noise. This tractor is a TX1410F model Iseki 4X4 tractor.

Bear,

There are many things that could cause your problem from pump cavitation, filter screen clogged up, spool valve problem (not very likely), pressure relief valve, lift cylinder seal to name a few. One should find the cause by process of elimination. I had the same issue last year, although my make and model is not the same as yours there are many similarities that can give you some direction to start diagnosing the problem. I started from simplest to the hardest and steps seemed logical to me. Take a look at the posts below, it may shed some light for you. Updater your findings and we'll be able to help more.

JC, thanks for your help. I located the hydraulic fluid screen filter. I removed same and discovered it was completely clogged with dirt and debris. I cleaned it out and replaced the fluid. As soon as I started the tractor and engaged the lift handle, the 3 point hitch came up. I used the tractor to till my three gardens yesterday and it worked like a charm. I read your threads about your tractor problem and through that info was able to locate the filter. I can't thank you enough for the help.
