I would like to start building some implements for my new BX1850. Are there any rules of thumb for 3 point hitch attachment point dimensions (drawbar to top link height etc.)? My first project will be converting a tow behind landscape rake for use with a 3 point hitch. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would just take a tape measure to whatever 3pt implement you have laying aroung and measure it up.
Since you have a BX model tractor you can build your stuff where the 3pt attach points are closer to the ground so you can get some ground clearanc when you lift it.
I did this with a Disk I built last year so the lift arms were level when lowered instead of angled and It lifts it high for any ground clearance issues I may come across.

Yep, Go find an implement that fits tight when you hike up on the stabilizer turnbuckles and I bet it will be 24" between pins. I built a trailer hitch receiver based on speeco's dimensions of 26" without checking and it won't tighten up side to side. I built it because the diesel truck won't pull the boat out of the back yard because of all the hills. I just love a 5000lb boat slamming from side to side as I drive on the hillsides. In fact I'll go out and measure my Bush Hog Blade and see.

My bad, dog gone it, I hadn't made a mistake all year until now.
The wack-o-matic trailer mover is actually 30" pin to pin.
Lienbach box blade 25"
Landscape rake 24"
Lienbach PHD 27"
Subsoiler 27"
BHog HD Blade 26"

So 26" should cover it with 18" to the top link pin.

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like 26" between lower control links and 18" to top link is standard. I'll use this as a starting point.

I actually measured my BB which is a capture pin design when I built my disk, I like a capture pin design on anything.

Being an BX owner, I would suggest 24 inch spread and only about 16" to the top link. I think 18" would limit you raise hieght al little. I would suggest the following:

Lower the lift arms until they are parrallel with the ground. Then lower you top link so that it is parrallel to the lower link arms. Measure that distance and you should be good to go.

Find the specifications for standard quick hitches and build to that. You'll especially be happy you did if you decide later to get a quick hitch.

I'm not familiar with the term "capture pin design". Could you please describe it? Found this (http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/36071-3-point-hitch-design-tool.html) in an earlier post to this forum but I can't open the file after I have extracted it. Anybody else have a similar problem and/or a solution?

Captured pins are like your top link pin but on the bottom also, it is a stronger design than the standard pin setup.
