Hi,
I am the proud owner of a second yanmar, ym155d. Its pretty small sitting next to my small ym2000. I was so happy to get a tractor with a loader, but now not so much.

Don't get me wrong, the 155d is almost perfect, but just may not have the grunt of the 2000. Was using my deep buster to lay irrigation pipe and the 155d just could not pull it. Had to do several passes before it would pull the line through. My 2000 would pull it through pretty easily in 1 or 2 passes.

Since this is a working farm, grapes and all, was looking for something to pull the ripper, 50in mower deck, etc. The implements are class 0 class 1 but the ym155d is really more of a class 0 tractor.

The bucket seems to be good for moving mulch and some graver but it's not a workhorse. I might need to sell the 155d and use the money to buy a coldwater loader.

Please school me if I'm missing something.
Cheers

Hello from 10 miles NW of you! I made pretty much the same buying decisions you did, I bought a YM186D to supplement the YM240 (YM2000). It's smaller, more maneuverable, and particularly on this sloping apple orchard the Powershift is a huge improvement compared to stopping the YM240 every 100 ft to shift as the slope changes.

Looking at TractorData I see my YM186D has 53.5 ci, 18 hp compared to the YM155D 40.4 ci, 15 hp. The YM186D is some 240 lbs heavier. Their footprints, overall dimensions, are near identical.

Compared to the YM240 the little guy barely meets my needs while the YM240 has slightly more power than I need, at least 95% of the time. Occasionally it's larger loader is needed to lift something but that is very rare.

It took me years to find a YM186d with loader but it was worth it, it is near ideal for me. A YM187D would be even better but I've only seen one for sale. Expect $4~6k for either if it has the OEM loader.

Don't give up on the small Yanmars but it sounds like you need one slightly larger.

Here are some other discussions / comparisons among the small Yanmars.

I should clarify in my posts, 'my YM186D' was two of them: first one a bare tractor. I replaced it with one identical that has an OEM loader and power steering. Near-ideal for a small tractor.
Only a YM187D with its better footroom and wider tires would be better among the small-footprint Yanmars. Anything larger runs on taller wheels/tires and then you get into tipover concerns.

And just for fun, shows how everything is on a slope:

Gotta have two Yanmars!

Here's a local one on CL with a little more grunt than than the YM2000. $2,500 including loader.

Tractor Loader - farm & garden - by owner - sale

These had a excellent reputation, as good as Yanmar, back in the day. Originally Hinomoto and also sold as Massey Ferguson and AC.

Near unbreakable but don't break anything, because parts come from Japan.

It looks like the little ym155d needs a new clutch ??!! ugh.
I could do it, being very mechanically inclined, but is there a local person in Petaluma that will work on these little guys?

Wow - ignore the CL link I posted above.

That seller has sold his running AC. Now that ad lists only a parts tractor that must have been scavenged to keep the good, sold, tractor running.

Sorry I don't know of a local shop. Occasionally I see ads on CL for a mechanic who will come to your place for jobs like this, at a very reasonable hourly rate. I have no idea if they are good but if you can supervise, then that might be an option.
