284 Alternator

Hi. I should start by saying, I am no electrician, so I need some help please.

I finally fired up my new 284 and the alternator is not working. I tested the voltage at the battery and it is the same with the engine running or not, 12.30 volts. I also tested the posts on the back of the alternator with the engine running and I am getting about 12.26 volts.

All the fuses tested ok and I cleaned the ground location.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for?

Well, I've narrowed it down to the regulator. I guess I got a bad one...

Thanks Tommy, but how I figured it out was there was an extra in the spare parts...maybe they knew it was bad and threw in a spare.

Do they go out very often?

By the way, it's the help from dealers and guys like you that made me even consider buying one of these. I have been reading these forums for a few months and can now REALLY appreciate all of the time you guys put in helping out guys like me. It's pretty incredible!
