In all my looking around, I have only see one photo of a 272 RFM that has a detachable (or fold-up) discharge chute. My 272 has a fixed discharge chute that is actually part of the deck stamping. Did JD make any 272's with a non-fixed discharge chute? or is the picture I saw someone's modification? I am seriously considering cutting the chute off of mine in such a manner that I could make it removable. There might be some times that I'd want to use the chute, but most of the time it would be removed.
