I wounder if there is a higher temp thermostat available that I could install during my PRE-winter service and then swap it to the lower temp thermostat in the spring.

I would think that maybe a Stant would fit, thermostats are usually not that different. You have to wonder if there is a reason for that temp rating. Would not want to mess with it if it is emissions/mCRD system related. I would think that it probably is because most tractors manufactures have more folks yelling about running too hot, especially in a hot/dusty/chafty environment. I would stick with your radiator blocking scheme for now... Spring is right around the corner.. :) [ well, I can dream... ] [ you might be able to find a good looking cedar savage to share the cab with you to keep warm ]

I understand not wanting to overheat the engine, but we need to at least get it up to normal operating temperature too....

I did a little research on this since I'm going to be using my tractor for snow removal. It has a 155 deg thermostat in it from the factory. The tractor won't get much warmer than that unless it fails closed. Seems like a design flaw from the factory. Mahindra spent millions (billions?) of $$$$$ to develop the mCRD just to possibly overlook this one crucial part?

155 deg F seems to be way to low for a diesel, but maybe it has to run this cold to keep the emissions down. Like one other person stated EricTheOracle put a higher temp thermostat in his Kioti and it solves the heat problem and extended his regen times. I am aware Mahindra uses a DOC and not a DPF.

The strange thing is higher temps produce lower emissions. With higher temps the engine is more efficient and cleaner burning.

If you are going to replace the thermostat for winter I would install a 195 degree one.

okay where can I get a 195 degree thermostat for my 2555? My dealer is saying the only one available is the stock one in the part manual.

can someone provide a part number and source?

Like JerryK said, a generic Stant *should* work.

Based on a picture of the factory one (bills tractor, hopefully it's not just a stock photo) the following looks like an equivalent. I know it's 185, but the shape/style is very similar. I would recommend using a lower temp first and gradually increasing, or if several of us are going to do this, one of us start with a lower temp and check results before we all go potentially waste time/money.

I'll gladly be a guinea pig in a month or 2 when it's finally cold here. But I'm sure I'll be able to see if I'd I'm getting heat right away (temps in the 40-50s)

Did it extend his regen times, or the time between his regens? I haven't seen his videos about low or no cab heat, just his slipping out of gear ones.

I too worry that the reason the temp is set so low is an emissions related reason. However, we don't know since Mahindra corporate isn't the best communicator.

I can't give you a direct answer but if you go to an automotive parts shop like NAPA and find a partsman that knows how to look up things then he/she should be able to come up with something. The critical measurement is the diameter of the disc. Then it's the question of whether it will fit into your thermostat housing. Your best bet will be to take your present thermostat out and take it along to see if something can be matched up.

The Mahindra part number is "006004365F91" for a thermostat for your tractor. The partsman should be able to use that to find one that fits for measuring. Another option would be to buy one from your dealer and take it to an automotive parts store for them to match up with. Once your done return take the Mahindra thermostat back to the dealer for your refund. Or save it to use when you change back to a cooler thermostat for the summer.

Hope this helps. When you find the part make sure you share the part number for others on the forum.
