I think they actually have a log book in the owners manual for you

Yes they do, and I am using it. Thanks!

I know it's easier to have the dealer do the service, but this is exactly why I do my own whenever I can, (somethings are beyond my skill level). I have a different model (4035) but it sounds to me like they over-serviced your tractor and stuck you with the bill. 50 hours on an air filter is crazy unless you operate in a crazy dusty area. I'm at 190 hours and mine are still fine, and the restriction gauge hasn't even moved yet. Thanks for sharing

Yep that's the last time I take it to them for a regular service or anything minor. And definitely won't be changing air filters at 50 hours.

My dealership quoted me $675 for the 50 hr. I did it myself and it came to about $225 in materials and parts and this with all Mahindra branded stuff. My dealership also gets $90 per hr. labor and charges $100 for pick up and delivery. It was just made sense for me to do it. I also think that the dealer mech might not work on just "your" tractor. They charge for "drain" time but they are not under your tractor the whole time. They'll jump to another job but will charge you anyway. If they start your tractor say at 9 am and they finish your job at noon, they have charged you for all of those hours even though they did not work on just your tractor. They simply look at "start" time and "finish" time and strictly go by what the clock says and not actually what happened.

I had a boss that took his car in for a service, they gave him a price saying it would take two hours to complete according to their book.
Well my boss sat there and timed the mechanic making note of each time he stopped to go to another vehicle. In the end the mechanic spent less than 40 minutes in total on my bosses car. The bill was made and he refused to pay for more than one hour labor and showed his notes keeping track of the time.

He won and only paid the one hour labor.

If you do your own 50hr., could it jeopardize the warranty?

I save my sales receipt for all of the filters and fluids I buy for the service from my dealer.
I would think if you can show you used only authorized filters and fluids they would have a hard time saying your warranty is void.

Also, legally (per the Magnum Moss Warranty Act) you only have to prove that you used compatible parts, not OEM ones and they have to prove that the aftermarket parts caused the problem (ie: if you use Fram filters they have to show that the Fram filter caused the problem to deny warranty coverage).

For those interested, here are the part numbers off my invoice and their price at my dealer.

Prices look about the same that I paid at my dealer for the fluids and filters. I did the service myself so I don't know what the book says is the average time to do the work. I'm disabled and it took me a two or three hours to complete my tractor but I spread it out over two days. That includes torquing bolts, and greasing zerk fittings.

My 50hr on the 4025 was right at $500. I dropped it off and picked it up. $100@2.75 hours labor. Changed outer air (stated they couldn't "blow it out"), fuel, and oil filter. Engine oil. Didn't change the hydro filter or fluid (book says not yet), and didn't clean the suction screen, that I could tell. Torqued loader and wheel fasteners, greased everything, including FEL.

Dealers, does Mahindra use "flag hours", or do you use actual clock hours?

Since you will be doing your own service. Just remember to torque the loader bolts.

Fuel filter at 50 hours is ridiculous, I wonder how they justified that? The manual calls for draining water off every 50 hours and changing every 500. Your filter was only 10% used up.

So if he was quoted 2 hours AND AGREED to the price... he gets there the mech. takes 4 hours but they only charge him 2 would he be made then?

Knowing my old boss at 2 hours and 1 minute he would be complaining why his car wasn't done when he was told it would take two hours.

My tale is on the positive side.

Took my car for oil, filters and seasonal tire swap (mounted on rims snows) and quoted 1 hr.
They also were to find a clunking noise from front right side.
2 hrs on the lift (he had tough time with ball joint)
They charged me ONLY 1 hour!! (excuse was they lacked proper tool and that it was not my fault)

I go back and so do he 5-6 others that I have referred.
He also has more parts stock than the local NAPA.

AND, basically he is a recycle yard (scrap) that is upgrading to full service.
Plus side is that he can supply used or new (from stock)

Didnt bother me a bit. I usually change all filters first maint mark just for piece of mind. Who knows what garbage is left from the manufacturing process. Cheap insurance, even if it's covered by warranty, I'd still be without the machine while its repaired. YMMV
