2520 vertical muffler

Has anyone tried putting a verical muffler on their 2520 like can be put on the 790 and several of the other models. I am seriously considering ordering the upright muffler for a 790 and having someone fabricate the necessary parts to make it work. The only thing holding me back is cutting a hole in the hood as that is something that I have had to deal with when restoring antique tractors too many times.

I have to ask... why do you want to do this? My only thought is, can you support it properly so it doesn't vibrate and break something?

He probably has the exhaust getting on something or doesnt care for the underhood design. I prefer a stack, I keep my property trimmed accordingly so I dont run into clearance problems. Now if I could find a weather cap that doesnt rattle so darn much. Cheers Mike

I use the 2520 on my tree farm and have noticed the smell of diesel as I stand in front hand loading the bucket. The exhaust is noticeable even while driving. Your concerns about rattling are justified and I do not want that or to make something structurally weak. If the 2520 is not discontinued, maybe John Deere will produce a field conversion for this purpose. The health concerns from inhaling diesel exhaust are well documented

The WORST problem I find with the exhaust is when I run my LX4 cutter HARD in 4 foot high grass and the engine is laboring and smoking a bit. Then as you drive forward, you drive right into your own smoke! Its not bad, but I do it for 3-4hrs sometimes, and I get really sick of it after the job.
I'd like to find a turn down or something to blow it down and out more.
